I looked at sub genres. This is the subdivision of a genre in film. For example horror is the genre but within horror there are sub genres like paranormal.
Today I learnt about camera angles and movement when filming. I learnt about the different types of shots and why it is important to have a variety of different camera angles and movement. I discovered that having a variety meant it kept the audience interested, shows more of the story creating atmosphere, appeals to more of the audience and can convey more emotion. I also looked at how the camera angles have an impact on the audience. I decided that in a horror movie it creates atmosphere and shows emotion and who has power within the film. Also I thought that it gave extra information about the surroundings.
I also looked at why movement was important in media and came to the conclusion that it is important because it enhances emotion, reveals elements of the media text that were previously not in the shot and it makes the audience feel part of the action.

Today I looked at some of the do's and don'ts within filming and how to incorporate the do's into our filming and how to not incorporate the don'ts into my filming. Here are some of the do's and don't discussed today in lesson.

Today I looked at a variety of Trailers from films like 'The Ring' 'Seven' and 'The Grudge'. I identified what shots were effective and why? This led to thinking about what shots I thought would be good in my trailer.

Today I looked at story boarding and what elements made a good storyboard. I decided that a good storyboard needed pictures which are clear and relevant. I discovered that text was important when creating story boards to describe what was happening in each shot. Also that you had to write what type of shot was being used in each section so people were able to see what was happening and what emotion you were trying to convey. I looked at the trailer of The Grudge of used the 8 shots as my practice storyboard.

In lesson i looked at a variety of trailers and discussed what shots were used and what emotion they portrayed. I looked at Dexter, Fright Night, Seven and The Grudge. I also looked at what style was used to make the trailer like continuity.
I also debated what made the trailers so eye catching and intrigued the audience to watch.
01/10/15
In our lesson today I went out filming and had the challenge to use 10 different shots in my trailer:
1.Off kilter.
2.Over the shoulder shot of the killer.
3.Close up off the weapon.
4.Close up/Extreme close up of fear.
5.360 degrees shot to show isolation/fear.
6.Low angle shot to show the power of the victim.
7.High angle shot to show the victims vulnerability.
8.Stab someone without hurting them.
9.Point of view of victim and killer as the victim crawls away on her back and the killer approaches.
10.Use the power of suggestion.
This gave me the opportunity to try out and experiment with each shot I am able to use when making my trailer.
06/10/15
In media today I started editing my video experimenting the 10 shots listed above.
07/10/15
Today I looked at audience research and began to write up how you would find the most popular films to rent or buy. I also looked about what genres made the most profit and what the professionals were thinking. Finally I looked at what films were rated best films. I used IMDb to research what the professionals were saying, amazon to find out what were the most popular things to buy. Metacritic for the best rated films, Netflix for the most popular rented films and finally I used Box Office Mojo to find out which horror sub genre made the most profit.
14/10/15 and 15/10/15
In these two lessons I started writing up how I found out what films were most popular, most rented, best rated, what the professionals were saying and which films made the most profit. I used what I found out to inspire us what sub genre I am going to use in my trailer. I wrote about which films were most popular in the renting department, which films made the most profit and what films were best rated. I have come to the conclusion that I am going to do a paranormal trailer because they are very popular but also because there is a gap in the media business.
17/10/15
Today I looked at how to make my own distribution and production videos on Final Cut Pro. I used overlays from the internet to make our own versions for my trailer. I started on my production company and downloaded a curtain that was blowing in the wind and edited it to make the colours more dull. I used 'Keyer' to get rid of a green screen on a bit of smoke that I over lied on top of the curtains.
20/10/15
Today I carried on looking and producing my distribution and production company.
04/11/15
Today I discussed what my horror ideas were and why I think these places and character choices were beneficial for my trailer. I came to the conclusion that me being the main character meant that I could have a stereotypical role of the blond girl that gets possessed. Matt and Dan will play the stereotypical role of the best friends where one is more dominant than the other. Matt will play the dominant one due to his height.
10/11/15
Today in lesson i wrote about the blood workshop we did in lesson. I talked about the consistency and why the consistency matters and which fake bloods were best to use in different situations. The workshop was very beneficial due to the fact I now have knowledge on which blood to use in my trailer. I also did a taste testing workshop and discovered that if too much food colouring was added it would ruin the taste of the fake blood and students wouldn't be able to contain them in their mouth.
11/11/15
I looked at a trailer from the 1970's and what made it have suspense. I then looked at two previous trailers from students a couple of years ago that used the idea of the 'When the stranger calls' to create their own style for their trailer.
26/11/15
Today I went out filming and filmed some practice shots of my trailer. I analysed my faults and worked out how I could improve them. I decided I needed to alter the lighting because it was too bright and didn't create the right atmosphere when watching.
16/12/15
Today I went out and started filming after changing the lighting. I filmed the makeup scenes and took the photographs, this consists of the previous exorcism that occurred in a different time era and Keiras death scene. This worked out very well and I didn't need to repeat this process. I took both close ups and long shots of our exorcism and used the flash of the camera in a dark room to do this due to the previous lighting issues.
22/12/15
Today I worked on our photographs using pic monkey to edit them so they looked old fashioned and created an atmosphere. This worked out well and I was able to use them in my trailer flashing in and out at certain points to break up my linear story line.
13/01/16
Today I filmed some of my starting shots of us walking up the drive way, this consisted of me blinding the camera and Matt breaking open the door as we entered the house. I later filmed some of the scenes where we were looking round the house and walking up the stairs. I used a variety of high angle shots and low angle shots to create an atmosphere.
22/01/16
I carried on editing today, I started editing the shots filmed on the 13th. This was productive and I finished the start of my trailer, I also used a lot of bloom effects to flash in the photographs from pic monkey.
03/02/16
Today was my final day filming when I filmed the end of my trailer. This consisted of the characters running away from my possessed character into the basement where Keiras death was going to occur. This was successful and i didn't need to film these scenes again.
17/02/15
I carried on editing my trailer today and included the final scenes which I recorded the day before, using the bloom transition this worked in well. I also started locating where I am going to put our titles and what they were going to say. This was a productive lesson for me.
17/02/16
Today I finished editing my trailer and uploaded it to the YouTube channel. Throughout editing on final cut pro I used a variety of different effects, transitions and sounds.
02/04/15
Today I went through my evaluation tasks and started planning for my question 1, I worked out how I am going to present my responses to the audience and what was needed to be said to answer each question. I started green screening this lesson also for our question 1 answer and worked on writing a script to follow.
04/04/15
Within this lesson I started editing my question 1 putting all the different videos together that correspond to the different examples I used like 'The Last Exorcism', 'The Woman in Black', 'Blair Witch Project' and some other examples. I looked at what conforms, challenges and developed the horror conventions and worked out which things fell into each category.
