LIGHTING IN OUR TRAILER
During my initial planning I experimented using different lighting. I tried using torches when walking up to the abandoned house but I have came to the conclusion that more lighting is needed to be able to see the characters and the house. I am also experimenting blinding the camera when walking up to the house to create a better atmosphere for the audience.

During the house scenes I have also decided I am going to use torches rather than having the lights on because in the initial shots we had the lights on and not enough atmosphere was created and the lights should be dimmed or use a different source of lights. I decided there wasn't enough atmosphere due to the audience being able to see everything that is happening.

Also when we found the ouija board I experimented using candles. I created a circle of candles and put 3 tea lights around the ouija board. I have decided that I will still use the same amount of candles but also use torches to brighten up the room so the audience are able to see what is happening in the shots but it is still dim creating atmosphere.

EXAMPLES WITHIN HORROR FILMS
Within the Grudge the main character goes up to the attic which is where the grudge appears infront of the her. The light appears to be below the actor on the top floor of the house compared to the darkness within the attic. This suggests to the audience that the darkness with holds evil and the unknown which effects the audience because everyone has once been afraid of the unknown. This also emphasises her facial expressions and her reactions to what is happening which makes the audience panic more because they are anticipating something is going to happen.
I have decided to make the surroundings within my trailer dark while my character is being possessed to represent evil is taking over the character in present day. This means people can focus on the facial expressions and the movement of my head creating anticipation which will affect my audiences reaction. Also during some of the movement around the house I have turned the lights off so people are only able to see the facial expressions of the characters building panic for the audience. |
In comparison, the film 'A nightmare on Elm street', the character Freddy Kruegers face is covered with darkness. This portrays his evil character due to the darkness across his face compared to the women on a The Grudge whose face is lit up with light showing the purity and innocence of her character.
I have decided to do this within my trailer so the audience are able to see who the evil and innocent characters are. The darkness around the eyes of my possessed character links in with this because it darkens my face and creates a black colour which represents evil and the unknown. |
