Poster Analysis
Sinister
The 'Sinister' poster has great colour connotations, a reddish black colour used to make audience feel on edge black shows connotations of evil and death. This is used against the white wall which is a great contrast as white is the colour of innocence. Another great feature they used was ink manipulation to form the face of the key antagonist giving subtle hints about the film without giving too much away such as the idea that once you actually see the antagonist 'nothing can save you' so its a way of showing him however keeping in line with the story. This is why the use of a tagline is great on a poster as it gives insight into the story.
Again child used in horror is a great tool as i portrays their loss of innocence making it slightly more terrifying to the audience. Finally a release date is often a good feature to include as without one audiences may just forget about your film wheres if you include one they may remember that films coming out October 5th. |
The Blair Witch Project
The Blaire Witch Project has great use of colour scheme in their poster the black and white contrast really strongly and the lack of other colour makes the red of the iconic symbol really stand out as the only key other colour on their with connotations of death and blood its a great combination classically seen in horror. Tag line briefly explains the story without going into too much depth, this is good because audiences only glimpse at posters so too much writing would be off putting. I also love the editing used to make the white have a glare on in makes the poster feel paranormal as its a distortion of a perfectly normal image colour swap from the sky to the trees cause audience to wonder whats causing the glare. Usage of a website or hashtag on a poster can really help your poster promote your product as it means there's further research the audience can do and if they go to the effort of going on a website rather than just glancing at a poster they will probably watch the trailer and then in turn remember the film for when it comes out. The setting of the poster in the forest is a great feature as it makes audience feel isolated.
