IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLANGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
Conforms
The first way I conform to the horror conventions is using stereotypes, Keira's character was the stereotypical popular girl with lots of makeup and a short skirt. The majority of the time this character dies first and is vulnerable. My trailer follows this horror convention. Also Matt's character is the stereotypical popular boy who wears chavy clothing. This is common within some trailer. An example of these stereotypes are within 'Ouija'. They use teenagers as a stereotype conforming to media conventions. Teenagers are reckless and I have shown this by them breaking down the door into the house of the abandoned looking house. |
Within the Blair witch project they use blurs and bloom, because of this I have conformed to the media conventions. I have used these to separate my storyline. These blooms create a tension building atmosphere as it flashes in and out of the trailer. This surprises the audience because they are not sure when it could happen and what will happen next.
My trailer has the theme of possession, this is a popular sub genre within the horror industry. This conforms to media horror conventions and what the outcome of possession and exorcism is. This happens within films like "The Possession", "The Last Exorcism", and "Ouija". I conformed to the media horror conventions by using a ouija board. This is common within supernatural and paranormal films, For example "Ouija". I used the idea of using a ouija board from this film. This allows the audience to interact and imagine what is going to happen.

I conformed to media conventions by having a female die first, this is like within many horrors. This represents the vulnerability and weakness of woman compared to men because our male characters survived. Keira died at the end of my trailer which conforms to this. She is the venerable and weak character within my trailer however she is initially portrayed as the popular non afraid character. |
Developed
I have developed media horror conventions by having two storylines. This has been created by having both narrative shots and photographs to separate the shots. This creates an effective response from the audience because it allows to know what happened in previous times and what happened during the exorcism.

Challenge
I challenge media conventions by having male survivors and innocent characters. This is unusual and doesn't happen a lot during horrors which is why I decided to do this. Neither of my male characters die challenging the conventions. Also Dan's character acts as the innocent character which isn't common, usually the female characters are scared and innocent but Dan's character conveys this characteristic.
