SOUND ANALYSIS
Sound in any horror movie either makes it or breaks it. with insidious they have a group of string instruments such as viola's and violins playing a spine tingling tune. the build up to the the "INSIDIOUS" title is quiet but when the title hits it gets extremely loud and fast this gives a scary jump factor. After this the music becomes rather erie and supernatural. In my horror I want to keep the audience on the edge of their seat so I will use similar jumpy music.
On the other hand you can also get trailers which contain a lot of tension without having erie sounds, for example the SAW movies all contain gory trailers that get straight to the point but also create tension for the audience (usually the victim doesn't survive, this makes it worse for the audience because they are just waiting on the edge of their seat for the death scene) The sounds they use are usually the same a sharp jolt in loud music to make people feel the fear of the victims , this only makes it scary because it links to gore and horror.

Sound:
The trailer starts with a simple train noise which is a diagetic sound it the trailer itself. This is then overlaid with a voice over of a conversation on the train. This is diagetic in some shots but in others its non-diagetic. This is also overlaid with a simple music track which is slightly contrapuntal, however this stops when the main character enters the house and this then changes to a parallel mysterious sound the starts to play along with the diagetic sound of the door opening. The mysterious sound builds up to a point when the main character spins the slider. This creates a sense of tension building up to a jump scare. It allows the noise of the slider to be the focus of the shot. After the silence while the slider is spinning there is a fast high pitched noise along with the jump scare on screen which helps to enforce the scare. This is followed by a voice of a women which is diagetic however the shots are faced pace and there is lots more diagetic sounds going on like a crow that lands on a desk.
